Things I feel I have a right to:
-Healthy food to eat
-A safe place to live
-A good education
-Medical care when I need it
-A job that pays for the things above

So... Maybe the last one isn't necessarily something you immediately think of when asked to make that sort of list. But I'm thinking it now, since having read three articles that were brought to my attention by

This is so beyond not okay. First of all, hormonal birth control (with the exception of the morning after pill) prevents conception! If there is no conception, there is no pregnancy by anyone's definition. Thus, classifying the pill as a form of abortion is ridiculous.
Some more issues: There are other things that the pill does besides prevent pregnancy. I've been on it for 5 years now, and I promise I wasn't sexually active at 15. My periods were coming twice a month (super not healthy) and the only way to regulate them was to go on the pill. Before that, my dermatologist wanted to put me on the pill to help with my acne. Sure, being able to have sex without getting pregnant is a nice side benefit, but it wasn't the primary reason I started using the pill.
Also, since when does the government have a right to restrict my access to medication? Last I checked, it was really none of their business. The fact that this proposal was even penned disturbs me greatly, because to me it says that certain groups* have gained way too much influence in Washington.
And didn't I just read something about the sad state of the family in this country? About how there are so many out-of-wedlock births and single mothers and families on welfare? Well guess what restricting access to the pill (and other types of BC) will do? Make it worse! So very much worse! I also think that this will bring back the at-home abortion, which is a dangerous, horrible thing that women had to do before they had access to reliable contraception. I personally would never do such a thing, but I think abortion is wrong except in cases of rape. Not everyone shares my beliefs however, and might resort to reckless measures to rid themselves of an unwanted pregnancy. I'll also bet that the number of babies found in dumpsters/dead on street corners increases.
I've written a letter to my congressman, and I strongly urge all of you to do so too. Hopefully, if there's enough response to this, such an utterly wrong proposal will never make it through congress.
